Tallin October 2017 with my boyfriend

( Old town, Tallinn )
When my boyfriend came to visit me while I was living in Riga, we planned a week that turned into the perfect Baltic getaway. We split our time between Tallinn and Riga, spending four days in each and soaking in everything these two beautiful cities have to offer.
We started in Tallinn, where we rented a cozy Airbnb in the old town. It was the perfect way to experience the city at our own pace. Days were spent wandering through cobbled streets, discovering hidden corners, and taking in the medieval charm that makes Tallinn feel almost like a fairytale. Everything was close and easy to explore, which made it ideal for a relaxed start to the trip.
After that, we travelled to Riga for the second half of our week. Here, we stayed right in the old town at Rixwell Konventa Seta Hotel. The location could not have been better, as it allowed us to step straight out into the heart of the city and explore on foot. From historic squares to lively streets filled with cafés and restaurants, there was always something happening just around the corner.
Spending four days in each city gave us enough time to really experience both without feeling rushed. Tallinn felt charming and intimate, while Riga offered a slightly more vibrant and expansive atmosphere. Together, they made for a perfectly balanced and memorable trip.
DAY 1 – 28.10.2017
( Night at: Aibnb in Tallin Old Town )
I spent the whole day at university, and as soon as my classes finished, I headed straight to the bus stop to meet my boyfriend, who had just arrived from Italy to visit me. There was that mix of excitement and relief when you finally see each other after time apart.
At 17:00, we departed from Riga to Tallinn with an Ecolines bus. The journey was smooth and relaxing, giving us time to catch up and enjoy the changing scenery along the way. We arrived in Tallinn at 21:20, just as the city was settling into the evening.
After checking in at our Airbnb in the old town, we dropped off our bags and headed straight back out. Tired but hungry, we wandered through the quiet streets until we found a small restaurant still open. It wasn’t planned, and we didn’t overthink it, we just stepped into the first place that felt inviting. Sitting down to eat together in a new city, after a long day of travel, was the perfect simple start to our adventure.
DAY 2 – 29.10.2017
( Night at: Aibnb in Tallin Old Town )
We spent the entire day exploring Tallinn, taking in its history, architecture, and atmosphere at a relaxed pace. Our first stops included St. Mary’s Cathedral, Tallinn, the elegant Kadriorg Palace, and the striking Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, Tallinn, each offering a different glimpse into the city’s cultural and historical layers. Of course, we also wandered through the old town, getting pleasantly lost among its cobbled streets and medieval buildings.
For lunch, we stopped in the main square and chose a cozy Estonian restaurant called “Old Estonia,” where we had the chance to try some local flavors while enjoying the lively atmosphere around us.
In the afternoon, we continued exploring the city, taking our time to soak in the views and discover more hidden corners. By the evening, we were ready for a proper dinner, and we headed to Olde Hansa, a well known medieval style restaurant that perfectly matched the spirit of the city. It was the ideal way to end a full day of sightseeing, surrounded by candlelight, traditional dishes, and a unique historical ambiance.
DAY 3 – 30.10.2017
( Night at: Aibnb in Tallin Old Town )
We woke up early and headed out to explore more of Tallinn. It was actually very cold, which made the morning feel even more refreshing as we walked through the quiet streets. Despite the chilly weather, we took our time discovering different parts of the city.
We made our way to Kadriorg Palace, enjoying the peaceful surroundings, and then continued on to the nearby beach, where the sea and crisp air gave a completely different perspective of Tallinn beyond the old town.
After spending some time by the water, we headed back into the city to warm up and relax a bit. In the evening, we decided to return to Olde Hansa, as we had loved it so much the night before. It felt like the perfect way to end the day, going back to a place that had already become a special part of our trip.
DAY 4 – 31.10.2017
We woke up early in the morning and departed from Tallinn at 6:30, catching another Ecolines bus back to Riga. The city was still quiet at that hour, giving a calm and almost reflective start to the day after our time in Tallinn.
The journey was once again smooth, and we arrived in Riga at 10:35, ready to begin the next part of our trip.
