Tunisia with mum summer 2022

While I was traveling in the US, I started thinking about organizing a summer trip. I decided it would be the perfect opportunity to travel to Tunis with my mum in July, when she would have her vacation. The idea of discovering a new place together, enjoying the sea, and spending some quality time felt like the perfect summer plan.

DAY 1 – Monday 25.07.22m

( Night at: Regency Tunis Hotel )

( Mojito on the Gulf of Tunis )

We left home early in the morning and took the train from Vercelli to Milan, then another train to Milan Malpensa. Our flight was at 11:45 am and we arrived at 12:45 pm. After landing, we went through passport control and a driver from the hotel picked us up and took us to the hotel. After a short wait, we checked into our room.

Once we got ready, we went straight to the beach to relax and enjoy the sunny weather. It was the perfect way to start the trip. In the evening, we had dinner by the beach and enjoyed the calm atmosphere.

DAY 2 – Tuesday 26.07.22

( Night at: Regency Tunis Hotel )

( Regency Tunis Hotel beach club )

We woke up around 8 am and had a breakfast. The rest of the day was all about the beach soaking up the sun, listening to the waves, and taking a few photos along the way. It was the kind of day where nothing needed to be planned, just enjoying the moment. In the evening, we had a simple but lovely dinner at a small bar right by the water same as the previous night.

DAY 3 – Wednesday 27.08.22

( Night at: Regency Tunis Hotel )

( Bath of Antoninus, Tunis )

We were picked up at the hotel at 8:00 am for a full day private tour of Tunis and Carthage with an Italian speaking guide, so my mum could easily understand everything.

Our first stop was the Medina of Tunis, the UNESCO listed old town. We walked through the narrow streets, visited the Zitouna Mosque, a traditional cap makers market, and the colorful perfume market.

After that we headed to the archaeological site of Carthage. The guide showed us the ancient ruins and explained the history of the city. Carthage was destroyed by the Romans in 146 BC, but excavations have revealed five story houses, sewage systems, and the remains of the city walls that once stretched across Byrsa Hill. We also visited the Baths of Antoninus and the Carthage Aqueduct.

The last stop of the day was Sidi Bou Said, a beautiful town famous for its blue and white houses and cobbled streets. We spent some time walking around, enjoying the views over the Mediterranean and the relaxed atmosphere of the small cafés and art galleries.

DAY 4 – Thursday 28.07.22

( Night at: Regency Tunis Hotel )

( Camel on the beach, Tunis )

I woke up at 6 am and realized my mum wasn’t feeling well. The morning was quiet, so I decided to head to the beach for a little while, taking some photos and enjoying the calm. I came back to check on her, but she still wasn’t feeling great. I went back to the beach alone for a short while before returning to the hotel.

I’m not sure what happened maybe we ate something that didn’t agree with her. I was feeling fine, but my mum wasn’t, and I felt really sorry about it. I just wanted her to enjoy the vacation with me, so it was hard to see her unwell.

DAY 5 – Friday 29.07.22

( Night at: Hotel Sol Azur Beach, Hammamet )

( Pool at the Sol Azur, Hammamet )

We woke up feeling awful I was feeling a bit sick as well, but went to the airport, and took a hotel car to Hammamet. Once there, we checked in at a new hotel where we would stay for six nights with full board, including breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Finally, we could just relax and enjoy our stay.

I felt a bit sorry about the situation. I didn’t want to leave my mum alone, but she was resting in bed most of the time. I tried my best to enjoy the trip with her, but since she wasn’t feeling well, I spent some time at the beach by myself, soaking up the sun and the sea. Every now and then I would go back to the room to check on her. It was a strange mix of relaxation and worry, but I tried to make the most of the day while still keeping an eye on her.

DAY 6 – Saturday 30.07.22

( Night at: Hotel Sol Azur Beach, Hammamet )

( Hotel Sol Azur, Hammamet )

We had breakfast early in the morning, and then I headed to the beach by myself. The morning was quiet, the sun just warming the sand, and I took a few photos while enjoying the calm. Around lunchtime, I checked on my mum, and later she joined me at the beach around noon. It was nice to finally have some time together by the water.

DAY 7 – Sunday 31.07.22

( Night at: Hotel Sol Azur Beach, Hammamet )

( At the pool of Sol Azur )

I woke up early and went for a swim to start the day. The day followed a similar rhythm to the one before, but luckily my mum was feeling better, so she stayed with me a bit longer on the beach. It felt nice to have her company and enjoy the sun together.

DAY 8 – Monday 01.08.22

( Night at: Hotel Sol Azur Beach, Hammamet )

( View from the window of the room )

I woke up at 7 am, got ready, and spent some time at the hotel swimming pool, taking a few photos. After that, I headed to the beach to swim, which I always enjoy. Later, my mum joined me she was feeling much better and we spent the day together, having all our meals and enjoying the beach side by side. It was wonderful to finally share the full experience with her.

DAY 9 – Tuesday 02.08.22

(Night at: Hotel Sol Azur Beach, Hammamet )

( Me at the pool of the Hotel, Hammamet )

I started the morning with a swim by myself before breakfast while my mum was still resting. Later, we spent the day together at the beach chilling, swimming, and enjoying lunch, with afternoon snacks served nearby. In the evening, we relaxed by the pool, and I took a few photos after dinner. It was such a peaceful, enjoyable day by the water.

( Night at: Hotel Sol Azur Beach, Hammamet )

( Hotel Sol Azur, Hammamet )

I spent the last day on the beach with my mum, taking photos, relaxing, and enjoying the sunshine together. It was the perfect way to end our time in Hammamet.

DAY 11 – Thursday 04.08.22

We booked a transfer from the hotel to the airport at 10:00 am, with our flight scheduled for 1:30 pm. Once we arrived, we discovered the plane was delayed by five hours. The day quickly turned into a long, unexpected wait at the airport until the evening. We finally departed around 9:00 pm, and at Milan Malpensa, my aunt Claudia picked us up since all the trains were unavailable. It was exhausting, but at least we made it home safely.
