Roadtrip Darwin to Perth 2024 

In the past years I always wanted to visit the west coast of Australia but I never had an opportunity so in 2024 I decided to go back to Australia to work few months and then to visit the rest of the country that I haven’t seen jet. By then I was living with C so we decided to do 6 weeks road trip till down to Adelaide so she could say goodbye to her family before leaving to Europe with me. She had a swag, we bought few camping gear, she had a car so we quit our jobs and she left the apartment and on the 20th of August we left Darwin together in the car driving down where we did 14000km together. 

DAY 1 – Tuesday 20.08.2024

Woke up at 7 am had a quick breakfast and finishing to pack everything in the car and then we went to Night Cliff to do a quick photoshoot, then we went back to the apartment pick up the food from the fridge and we went to The Cav with Lauchie to have a cheese board platter, chatting and say goodbye properly and then from there we left Darwin around 3 pm, just one more stop at Bunnings to get the strap for the roof of the car to tide the swag and then we drove down to Katherine where we stopped to get some fuel and we kept going in the night where actually a road train broke the front screen glass of the car with a stone, then we arrived at the Big Horse Creek Campground in Timber Creek where we set up the swag and went to sleep. 

DAY 2 – Wednesday 21.08.2024

Woke up at 8 am pack the tend and we drove to the border of Western Australia and then we keep driving till Lake Argyle where we stop for a swim in the pool and for lunch and we booked a sunset cruise for the day after  with Lake Argyle Cruse because for today was fully booked for both companies. After lunch we decided to visit El Questro Wilderness Park proceeding after Kunanarra towards west but unfortunately without reception and no sign we kept going and ended up in Wyndham so we went to the five rivers lookout and took a picture in town with the big crocodile and then on the way back we found the El Questro finally went to Emma Gorge but was too late to do the walk, isn’t allowed after 3 pm in the dark so then we made our way out the park we stopped to watched the sunset on the road and then we went to sleep at Cockburn Rest Area near Kununarra.

DAY 3 – Thursday 22.08.2024

Woke up at 5:30 am we packed the tend and we went to Emma Gorge we hike there and swim in the beautiful gorge, it was absolutely worth it and then we kept going into El Questro till the Zebedee Springs anywhere we chilled there for a bit and then we made our way to lake Argyle where we had the sunset cruise booked, got there at 2:15pm with it was absolutely beautiful and worth it, we saw mini wallabies, few crocs, feed cat fish and other fishes and then we swam and chilled with the flooding while drinking a beer and the sunset goes down. After we stopped at Kununarra to refill the car and we went back to Cockburn Rest Area to sleep there. 

DAY 4 – Friday 23.08.24

Woke up at 5:30am packed the tend and made our way to the Parululu National Park which unfortunately we couldn’t visited because we didn’t have a 4W drive car so just just kept going to Halls Creek. Got there at 11:00 am in Hallas Creek went to the fuel station looked for a bakery and then we went to the lookout for lunch but was to sunny so we just kept going besides few stops on the way till we got to Mary pool where we stop a bit and took few pics with the cattle and then we kept going till Fitzory Crossing stopping at the caravan park to refill water and watching the sunset by the bridge and then we went to sleep at the Ellendale Station Rest Area by 7 pm had some noodles for dinner and we went to sleep.

DAY 5 – Saturday 24.08.24

Woke up at 5:30 am had a coffee and drove to Broome but on the way we stopped to take few pictures at the Willare Bridge Roadhouse and kept going to Broome till the Town Beach. Found a place to sleep just next to the Town Beach at Discovery Parks Broome, went down do some grocery and then back for lunch and did the color to Carmel’s hair. After we went to visit Simpson beach then Matso’s brewery for a beer and then watch the camels on Cable Beach and after we went back to the campground to have a steak for dinner and sleep.

DAY 6 – Sunday 25.08.24

Woke up at 6:30 am had breakfast walk around the camping and see the Town Beach. Then drove Coconut Well to take few pictures and visit the rock formations then we drove to Willie creek Perl farm and later we went back to the city to chill and swim at Gantheaume beach. Later on went back to the caravan park for a quick lunch and shower and then at 4 pm we went to Cable beach to do the Camels ride with the Cable beach camels company for like and hour to watch the sunset while we were riding a camel. After we went to Matso’s brewery for a beer and then sleep.

DAY 7 – Monday 26.08.24

Woke up at 5 am had breakfast pack the swag and went to Gantheaume point to look for the dinosaur foot print and explore the area. After we stopped at the Gantheaume beach to take few pictures and then stopped at wooly to buy some food and fuel and we left Broome 11:30 am. Carmel drove till the Sandfire roadhouse for three hours where we had lunch and took pictures then we kept going until Port Headland, did fuel at Carltex and had dinner by the road then I kept driving till Dales Campground which we got there by 11 pm.

DAY 8 – Tuesday 27.08.24

We woke up at 7 am had breakfast there and then we went to Dales Gorge to visit Fortescue Falls and Fern Pool which we swam there and enjoyed the time there. Then we drove to Hancock where we had tried to visit it but the water was to high we had to swim and I couldn’t carry the camera so we went back to the car we drove to Knox but it was already 2pm and it’s 3hrs walk so we decided to go to check out Joffre Gorge where I just took a look at the lookout mine while Carmel went down and did the walk once she got back we kept fighting a bit and we went  back to Dales camp ground for sunset and sleep exhausted by the day.

DAY 9: Wednesday 28.08.24

Woke up at 7am went to the pic nic area for breakfast and then we start to drive to Tom Price where we went to Coles & Bakery bought some water and food took some pictures and then we went to visit Hamersley Gorge but just when we parked we realized that we lock the car with the key inside anyway we went to visit the Gorge and had a swim in there and we met a guy that helped us to break the car to get key so we could keep going, took few pics with the red ground and we went to the Eco Retreat to the restaurant/ bar to have a beer during the sunset and then we slept there and cooked the dinner there. 

DAY 10: Thursday 29.08.24

Woke up at 6:30 am packed the swag and went to the public toilet to get change and made sandwiches for breakfast near by and then we drove 20min to Kalamina gorge which it took 3hrs return with seeing the waterfall as well and took plenty of pics and swimming there. By 11 am we made out way to Port Headland which we got there by 3:30 pm chilled a bit at the Cemetery beach park, passing by the Dampier salt and at 5 pm went to Lisa’s Kangaroo retreat to lean about kangaroo feed and pet them. Later we stopped at The Headland Hotel to enjoy the sunset and having a beer, after we kept driving to Exmouth direction but we stopped for the night at Peawah Rest Area, going to sleep around 9 pm.

DAY 11 – Friday 30.08.24

Woke up at 6:30 am had breakfast in the rest area and then we visit the Whim Creek Hotel and we stopped in Roebourne and Karratha Industrial Estate for fuel and showed. Then we had lunch at Peedamulla campground which it was one of the best camping ground facility wise and we kept going till Nunutarra roadhouse  and the Boulders. Finally we reach Bullara station we took few pics, we wonder around and by the sunset we sit down and enjoy the live music till the dark and we went to eat something quick  and sleep. 

DAY 12 – Saturday 31.07.24

Woke up at 6 am packed everything, then we stopped in the high way to have noodle for breakfast and kept driving till Exmouth, where first we went to the visitor center and then we went exploring the west side of the peninsula. Fist we stopped at the boat ramp, Neds camp, Mesa camp, Tulki beach and then we stoped in the Turquoise Bay chilled and swim there and took few pics. Then we kept going down passing by Notd Mandu, Ospery bay and a little walk around Yardi creek camp. Later we drove back up to Yardi Homested caravan park did the check in set up the swag, had a shower, bought a beer from the restaurant and went to watch the sunset at the lighthouse and after back to the camp to have pasta for dinner by the bbq area and sleep. 

DAY 13 – Sunday 01.09.24

Day tour with Whale Shark n dive Exmouth 

Woke up at 7 am got ready and pack everything and went to the boat ramp to catch the boat to start the day tour. It was amazing fist breakfast and a snorkel spot, then three swim with the whale shark and later after lunch one more snorkeling spot. The water was freezing and Carmel was sea sick but beside that was incredible. And at the end we had some alcohol beverages and the tour finished at the boat ramp by 2 pm. Then we went to chill at Turquoise Bay and then we went again to watch the sunset at the lighthouse and then back to the camp for dinner and sleep pretty early by 8:30 pm very exhausted from the day.

DAY 14 – Monday 02.08.24

Wake up at 6 am, packed everything and went to Turquoise bay again to take some pictures with the drone since none was on the beach then we went into town at bakery for breakfast and then IGA for groceries. Took few quick pictures at the prawn and Exmouth sign before heading to Coral Bay. Where we arrived by 11:30 am we had lunch at the Ningaloo coral bay caravan park then went to the tour operator shop of Coral Bay Eco Tours and we booked a tour for the day after to swim with the Manta Rays and then we went to Bill’s bay to chill and sleep and then watched the sunset at the Coral Bay Lookout and then went to have sandwiches for dinner and sleep at the caravan park. 

DAY 15 – Tuesday 03.09.24

Woke up at 6:30 am packed everything and went to the meeting point next to Finn’s Cafe but 7:30 am to sign the paper and then with the bus transfer took us to the boat ramp where we got on the boat, immediately had one snorkel and then breakfast on the boat then 4 swim with the Manta Rays it was amazing, later lunch and then an other snorkel and we went back to Coral bay around 2:30 pm. Later we went to Bill’s bay again to sleep and chill then we stopped at the Ningaloo Bar to buy a beer to take it to the Coral Bay lookout to watch the sunset and then went went back to the caravan park, had sandwich for dinner and then doing the swag and sleep.

DAY 16 – Wednesday 04.09.24

Woke up at 6:30 am packed the swag and went to the Coral Bay Bakery for breakfast and then to Bill’s bay to take few pics and then again next to Finn’s cafe at 10:30 am to sign the palate and jump on the bus to go to the boat ramp to do the whale watching tour, which it was amazing we saw many humpback whales with their babies as well and we had few snacks and a glass of wine completely, probably the cheapest and the best tour. We got back to Bill’s bay at 2:30 pm went to the beach again took few quick pictures with a better light, went to check out Skeleton bay and then we start to drive to Carnarvon  where we stopped to do some groceries at Woolies and fuel then we kept going  till Denham and had dinner while driving till we reach the Tasman Holiday Park and we set the swag there to sleep.

DAY 17 – Thursday 05.09.24

Woke up at 6 am packed the swag, drove to Monkey Mia saw the sunset at the pier had a hot tea with biscuits and then went to see the dolphins which actually we couldn’t see the dolphins feeding till 10 am so we just hang around the jetty saw few turtles and finally the dolphins but then unfortunately started to rain so we decided to spend the night at the RAC in a budget double room hoping to have a better sunny day tomorrow. So we did some laundry and some charging since we had the room, had a nice lunch in the kitchen then we took a hot shower and had a nap in the noon. Woke up for sunset went to watch it by the bar while we were having a Great Northern but still it was very windy so we went back to the room to chill in the bed and had noodles in the bed as well and then we fall asleep. 

DAY 18 – Friday 06.09.24

Woke up at 7:30 am went to beach check the dolphin feeding which wasn’t happening and the weather was very cold and windy so went to the room had breakfast with an hot tea/ coffee and biscuits and then got ready to leave and took few quick pictures around. First stop of the day was the Little Lagoon which again unfortunately was very windy but very nice, then we went to shell beach where we had lunch and took few pictures. Later we proceeded to the Telegraph station and Hamelin pool, quick petrol stop and then we went to Galena bridge camp area spud site where we set the swag had dinner and then watch the sunset by the river going down behind the bridge and then we went to sleep.

DAY 19 – Saturday 07.09.24

Woke up at 5:30 am packed the swag and quick on the way to go to watch the sunrise at the Skywalk in Kilbarri National Park which it was like and hour drive. We didn’t really make it but still it was very beautiful and then we did the walk to visit the Nature’s Window and took few pictures and walking around. After we drive to Kilbarri city we got some water in the caravan park,  then we wnet Chinaman’s beach to watch the waves and explore the city while we got an ice cream and then Back beach to take few pictures of the landscape. Then we decided to go to visit the Hutt lagoon and Port Gregory then we made our way back up setting up the swag for the night at Wagoe Beach Chalet and camping, and bought some fresh eggs from the farm and took few pics of the lamas and cows. Later we decided to go to watch the sunset at Red Bluff Lockout which it was amazing but very windy, and then we went back to the caravan park to cook dinner and sleep. 

DAY 20- Sunday 08.09.24

Woke up at 5 am pack the swag and drove to Kalbarri to joint the tour at 6:15 am which it was very interesting and a different experience and from that we got two crayfish and by the time the tour finish we stopped at the IGA to get some ice and a box for the crayfish and we kept going to Geraldton where we stopped at Wollie to do a bit of grocery and we had a bread breakfast in the car then we visited the lighthouse by the beach and then we visit the HMAS War Memorial. After this little breakfast/ lunch stop we kept going till Grigsons lookout and we flew the drone around the salines just near the Sandy Cape. Then once we got to Sandy cape Recreation Park we drove to Jurien bay got the beers going back to the camping for sunset and then cooking the crayfish and went to sleep. 

DAY 21 – Monday 09.09.24

Woke up at 8 am had breakfast and then went to the beach and the dunes to have a look around and take few pictures. Went to Jurien bay jetty to flight the drone and then we started to drive south, till we got to thirsty point looking where u can see Wedge Island, but it was very windy so we just took few pictures and left. 

Then we got to the Pinnacles and we had drove around the park while taking fees pictures, and as a last stop of the day we went to the Sand Dunes in Lancelin Bay which again was very windy so we didn’t really enjoy much the sunset even if was very beautiful.  After we tried to find a spot to sleep which we couldn’t find it not in Lancelin Bay not in Swan Valley, drove around for a bit till we decided to go to Fremantle where we booked the night for the following day actually but it was the only option basically even if we got there around 11 pm. 

DAY 22 – Tuesday 10.09.24

Woke up at 7 am packed everything and left the caravan park went to the dog park in Coogee where we had breakfast and change the clothes. Then we drove to the Swan Valley where we started the wine tasting tour, the weather was a bit cloudy and very windy but it cleared up later on fortunately. So we organize our wine testing starting from Mandoon Estate, Sandalford Wines, Oakover Ground little stop for lunch, then The House of Honey& Sticky Spoon Cafe  where we got a delicious ice cream and as a last one where we had a cheese platter with the wine testing was the Upper Reach. Then drove back to Fremantle to the camping set up the swag and then we went for sunset at the Bathers Beach House with carmels friend Ben and we had an aperitive there and after we went back to the camping to cook the lunch take away for the following day and then we went to sleep very tired from the day. 

DAY 23 – Wednesday 11.09.24

Woke up at 6:30 am drove to Fremantle Shed B to pick up the ferry at 7:30 am to go to Fremantle which is only 40 minutes boat ride. Went for breakfast at Rottnest Bakery where we could already interact with the quokka and by 9 am we went to rent the bike by Pedal & flipper and we started to explore the island passing by the lighthouse, Pinky beach , The Basin, Geordie Bay, City of York bay and we had lunch on the beach in there and took few pics. After we pedal down almost till Rocky Bay Beach then we kept pedal till Little Salmon Bay and Parker point and from here we pedal back to Rottnest village. We left the bikes at 4 pm had a little wonder around plying with quokka went to pinky beach to chill and then we took the ferry back at 6 pm and once we got back in Fremantle we went for drinks and meeting up again with Carmel friend Ben at National Hotel Fremantle for a coke and a little chat and then we went back to the caravan park cook some noodle and then we went to sleep. 

DAY 24 – Thursday 12.09.24

Woke up at 7 am pack everything and left the caravan park and went to do the nails at 9 am at Anna Nails in Beaufort street  then we went to DFO to look for clothes for Africa after we catch up with Alice at Mary Street  Bakery and Carmel went to the lashes then once she got back we had an ice cream all together and at the Messina Gelato said goodbye to Alice and then we went to the H&M and at 3:30 pm Carmels had her hair appointment at Meraki Hairdresser. Later once she finished with the hair we went to the QT rooftop bar for sunset and drinks and then dinner 7:30 pm at C restaurant which it was an incredible experience because the restaurant ruotate so your will have a 360 view of the city by night. After we went to Voodo lounge for a drink and back to Fremantle to sleep very tired and by then was around 11 pm. 

DAY 25 – Friday 13.09.24

Woke up at 7:30 am pack the swag and we wnet to Cogge to the ship reck to flight the drone and then to the Fremantle markets where we had breakfast and we catch up again and said goodbye with Carmel friend Ben and then we went to Elizabeth Quay took few pics and then we stopped at Aldi to do grocery and then we started to drive down to Bunbury stopping at John Tognela Rest Area and then Collie visiting briefly the city and then checking out the lakes till we stopped at the Stockton Lake for sunset  where we set up a fire and we had some dinner with the fire by the lake it was a very nice atmosphere and then went to sleep.
